A summer without a festival visit? For many music lovers – unthinkable. Almost two years after the founding of guerillaclassics, we came up with the idea to set up a mini-festival for classical music at some of our favorite places in Zurich.
«S’Fäscht» we christened our festival, which celebrated its premiere from June 27 to July 2, 2019. For the first time the performances of our artists were publicly announced and recommended by the Züritipp and Ron Orp. Classical music was six days straight from their experimental side.
guerillaclassics stands for surprising concert experiences, spontaneity and creativity.
The «Fäscht» was therefore particularly concerned with bringing new concert formats outside the usual norms to life. One focus of the Fäscht was on transdisciplinary cooperations that break the boundaries between concert, theater and performance.
The opening concert in the RWI Library of the University of Zurich was designed in collaboration with Erlebnis.xyz – a collective of artists known for visual staging of architecture in harmony with electronic music. The cooperation with the Hyperlocal, a space for contemporary theater, resulted in a staged format for string quartet with performance elements. On the other «Fäscht» days analyzed a psychoanalyst opera roles, two percussionists designed a participatory jam session in the school for young asylum seekers and in the format «Letten Love» the audience could try themselves to write poetry, based on Edward Rushton composed two songs.
The finale was the concert in the station hall of the Zurich HB, where piano and opera singing were accompanied by two dancers and the thunderous applause of the commuters.
After this intensive starting shot, one thing is certain: there will be another «Fäscht» in the coming year as well. When, where and how exactly should a surprise remain – just as the tradition of guerillaclassics wants it.
