Listening Session 

Der Startpunkt einer Reihe von Listening Sessions, kuratiert von tracy september und Severin Kolb, in der ausgehend von faszinierenden Kompositionen aus verschiedenen musikalischen Richtungen Zugänge zum Hören entwickelt werden. 

In ihrer Komposition “Horse Sings from the Cloud” aus dem Jahr 1975, die auf einem gleichnamigen eigenen Gedicht basiert, horcht die amerikanische Komponistin Pauline Oliveros den Tönen ihres Akkordeons nach, bis sie das Bedürfnis verspürt, sie zu ändern. Es handelt sich um eine ihrer frühen textbasierten Kompositionen, aus denen sie im Laufe der 1980er-Jahre im Dialog mit zahlreichen Weggefährt*innen Konzept und Praxis des «Deep Listening» entwickelte. Auf diesem Weg rückt das konzentrierte Hören von Klängen aller Art in den Fokus, in der Nachbarschaft von Meditation und Achtsamkeitspraxis – ein Abenteuer, das zu lebenslanger Entdeckung einlädt. 

In dieser guerillaclassics-Listening Session stellt Aio Frei, Non-binary Sound Artist, Relational Listener, Sonic Community Organizer und aktuell Participant eines Kurses am «Center for Deep Listening», das Schaffen von Pauline Oliveros vor, das aus der gelebten Praxis zehrt. Nach kurzen gemeinsamen Übungen und Input-Blöcken spielt die Akkordeonistin Tizia Zimmermann das Stück «Horse Sings from the Cloud».

Listening Session 

This event marks the start of a series of listening sessions curated by tracy september and Severin Kolb, in which fascinating compositions from various musical genres will be used as a starting point for developing approaches to listening. 

In her composition "Horse Sings from the Cloud" from 1975, which is based on her own poem of the same name, the American composer Pauline Oliveros listens to the sounds of her accordion until she feels the need to change them. It is one of her early text-based compositions, from which she developed the concept and practice of "deep listening" in dialogue with numerous companions over the course of the 1980s. This approach focuses on the concentrated listening of sounds of all kinds, in the neighbourhood of meditation, awareness and mindfulness practice - an adventure that invites lifelong discovery. 

In this guerillaclassics Listening Session, Aio Frei, non-binary sound artist, relational listener, sonic community organiser and current participant in a course at the "Center for Deep Listening", presents the work of Pauline Oliveros, which draws on her lived practice. After short joint exercises and input blocks, accordionist Tizia Zimmermann will play the piece "Horse Sings from the Cloud".
